Check out this amazing comic strip I did called Misery Kid! I think this comic strip is amazing as it really says a lot about our times.
In it we see a Show and Tell session in a class room. The first pupil up is Timmy. Timmy’s Show and Tell is his hugely elaborate golden yo-yo that plays “La Bamba” when it spins.
When asked by Misery Kid if he will let him have a go on his Yo-Yo Timmy says no as Misery Kid is a pauper.
From this Misery Kid decides that it is not so much Show and Tell as Show Off (from where Timmy shows off his fancy Yo-Yo) and Tell Off (from Misery Kid being lambasted for asking to have a go on the Yo-Yo).
This comic strip is so awesome because within it’s four frames it completely encapsulates the whole Occupy Wall Street movement that is sweeping the world. Timmy represents the 1% who own all the expensive shit. Misery Kid (who we only see in silhouette as he represents the silent majority of every day folk who don’t own lots of expensive shit).
Timmy brazenly flaunts his wealth to Misery Kid but will not let him share in it. This in turn makes Misery Kid feel bad, conjuring up some of the emotions that have made so many people go out and camp in the middle of places in protest.
"But what about the teacher?" you ask, "Is she just there for eye candy?"
No! She represents The State! Read the comic strip again, first of all notice how she lets Timmy (i.e. The 1%) go first, demonstrating how they are always privileged over the poorer 99%. Then notice how she does nothing to admonish Timmy when he rudely calls Misery Kid a pauper reflecting how the 1% can act how like wish with out any fear of reprisal.
Yes, this is one fantastic comic strip that really strikes a chord. I wouldn’t be surprised is some sort of big time Liberal media outlet would like to reproduce it in their content aggregator. If you are such a organisation feel free to contact with a Twitter and we can talk terms.
